Philadelphia is a relatively busy and crowded city. In any densely populated urban area like Philadelphia, motor vehicle accidents may be more common than they would be in rural areas.
This is natural. Quite simply, the more vehicles there are on the road, the greater the odds of collisions.
However, a recent innovative study reveals that Philadelphia might have a particularly high rate of annual motor vehicle accidents. Such findings once again highlight the importance of exercising caution when navigating our city in a car, truck, van, or even on foot.
The company behind this recent study is an autonomous vehicle company that relied on footage from Nexar dashcams to determine which cities are most accident-prone. Nexar provides dashcams that pair with an AI-based app. The app uses AI tech to identify dangerous conditions and significant events, such as a driver slamming on the brakes. The app automatically saves footage of these events to cloud storage so that users may access footage they might need at any time.
The study involved using AI to review tens of millions of miles worth of Nexar dashcam footage from various major cities throughout the US. Although the results of this study may not be conclusive, as there can always be questions regarding the effectiveness of a study’s particular methodology, it does currently reveal that collisions occur more frequently in Philadelphia than any other large American city.
Ideally, technologies like those Nexar provides can hopefully reduce the rate of accidents across all US cities in the future. The hope is that Nexar’s AI can digitally reconstruct accidents in a manner that helps autonomous vehicles essentially “learn” how to safely navigate what could otherwise be very dangerous situations.
There may come a day when autonomous vehicles can safely transport Philadelphians from Point A to Point B with minimal risk of a collision. In the meantime, however, motorists in Philadelphia need to understand what steps they can take to ensure they receive proper compensation for their losses in the aftermath of accidents.
Pennsylvania is currently a no-fault state. That means, even if an accident resulted from someone’s negligence, a victim would typically begin the process of seeking compensation for their medical bills and related losses by filing a claim to recover compensation from their own insurance.
It’s worth noting that it may not always be easy for a victim to recover the compensation for which they are eligible in these circumstances. Insurance companies are businesses. The goal of an insurer is not necessarily to provide a victim with adequate financial compensation. Instead, it is more likely an insurer will attempt to settle for as little money as possible.
This is why it is important for drivers to enlist the help of lawyers when filing claims or lawsuits. Having legal representation can significantly impact one’s chances of arriving at a fair settlement.
