US Postal Truck Strikes And Kills Pedestrian

Posted in Wrongful Death on Saturday, May 4, 2019.

When you get out and about in the city on foot, like so many people do each day, we know that you take steps to stay safe. However, there is no way you can control the actions of other people around you. Today, we want to share the tragic story of a man who was killed after he was struck by a US Postal Service truck while using a crosswalk in Brooklyn.

Soloff & Zervanos, P.C. is ready to be by your side if you need a wrongful death attorney. We will work to secure the compensation your family needs during this difficult time.

What Happened Here?

When you watch the video, it is hard to understand exactly how this incident happened. Police say that 52-year-old Charles McClean was killed as he used the crosswalk at the intersection of Howard Avenue and MacDougal Street. McClean was near his residence at the time of the crash.

McClean was struck by a US Postal Service truck. The driver stopped at the scene and stayed there throughout the investigation. As of this posting, there have been no arrests and the investigation is still ongoing.

What Can Happen?

We know that pedestrian crashes are far too common in and around the city. In fact, during the latest reporting year for New York, there were more than 15,000 pedestrian crashes reported. Out of those, there were 14,912 injuries and 249 fatalities.

These incidents are only one way in which wrongful death cases occur. Any time the negligent or careless actions of another person, company, or entity causes a fatality, the surviving family members can bring a civil wrongful death suit against them.

Today, we want to briefly list some of the common ways in which wrongful death lawsuits arise. Please know that this is not a complete list and that you should always speak with an attorney regarding your specific case.

  • Impaired driving incidents
  • Distracted driving incidents
  • Criminal activity
  • Medical mistakes
  • Slip and fall incidents
  • Boating accidents
  • Birth injuries
  • Nursing home neglect
  • Defective products
  • Construction accidents
  • Other workplace incidents

It is important to know that these cases can become incredibly complex and that the people responsible will likely secure a skilled legal team to defend them. You need to do the same thing.
