Most of our Pennsylvania residents agree that driving is a privilege. Furthermore, most will also agree that all motorists on the roads have an on-going duty to ensure that they are observing traffic laws in place, and not indulging in activities that put the public and other motorists at risk of harm such as driving under the influence or driving while distracted.
Though laws are in place in Pennsylvania to prevent and minimize reckless driving or other driving behaviors that put the public’s safety at risk, car crashes and accidents routinely occur resulting not only in long-term life changing potentially debilitating injuries for many but also death. In fact, according to recent media reports, a driver allegedly crashed into a truck early morning around 6 a.m on a Pa. Turnpike injuring at least three construction workers who were in the truck and killing the driver.
The accident is still under investigation but reports indicated that the construction workers were in the process of picking up construction cones to facilitate the reopening of a closed lane. The injuries the three construction workers sustained varied in severity with at least one being airlifted to Temple University Hospital with serious injuries, one other was taken by ambulance to an area hospital and one other worker was treated at the scene of the accident for minor injuries. The driver of the car was killed in the accident.
Car crashes can happen to anyone, at anytime, anywhere and without little or no notice. The causes can be variegated. Though, typically law enforcement’s accident investigation personnel will piece together what happened and what caused the accident, immediately following an accident where injuries have occurred, getting the injured the appropriate medical treatment becomes priority.
Time following an accident can be confusing, emotionally draining and one’s focus will likely be on getting the necessary treatment. Contemplating filing a personal injury lawsuit might be last thing on an injured parties mind. However, those injured in a car accident due to the negligence of another may be able to recover compensation for their injuries, pain and suffering, lost wage and more.
