Pajamas, helicopter kit and thermostat in latest product recalls

Posted in Products Liability on Wednesday, July 2, 2014.

Pennsylvania consumers are no different than other Americans in preferring quality when they purchase products. Some consumers only buy goods made by known manufacturers to ensure the products are safe to use or consume. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that defective items have not reached the market and potentially put consumers at risk, which is why manufacturers often issue product recalls out of concern for safety. Defective products can endanger the lives of product users, resulting in injuries and sometimes even death.

Among the most recent product recalls are several items of note. One is a child’s pajama set by BedHead Pajamas that was sold between January 2011 and February 2014. The pajamas do not meet flammability standards for kids’ sleepwear and pose a risk of burn injuries. A second item is the Horizon Hobby helicopter kit sold in July and August 2013. The helicopter’s blades can fall off during use, resulting in user injury. A third item, a thermostat unit for home heating and cooling, was sold from the beginning of 2006 until the end of 2013. Batteries in the units can leak and short out the circuit boards, creating a fire hazard. In all cases, consumers can contact the companies for full recall information.

Anyone injured by these defective products can be compensated for damages under products liability law. Depending on the injuries suffered, a person can receive awards for medical expenses, pain and suffering as well as other damages.

A lawyer who handles similar cases may be able to help anyone injured by an unsafe or defective product. The attorney can represent the victim in court or negotiate with the defendant for a fair and just settlement. The goal of a personal injury attorney is to provide the best possible settlement for the plaintiff.
