You can count on the team at Soloff & Zervanos, P.C. to help if you need a car accident attorney. We will work to investigate what happened so we can secure compensation for all of your crash-related expenses.

What Happened Here?

Zafar Iqbal is an Uber driver and was recently driving with a passenger through the Queens-Midtown Tunnel when he was slammed into by a wrong-way driver. Iqbal has a dashcam that captured the incident and footage shows a Jeep turn a bend in the tunnel and drive directly into the path of Iqbal’s vehicle.

The driver of the Jeep was 18-year-old Jorje Beato. After he struck Iqbal, he fled from the Jeep but was apprehended by an MTA Bridges and Tunnels officer. Beato was arrested and charged with reckless driving, criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana, leaving the scene of an accident with injury, and unlicensed operation.

Beato only has a learner’s permit.

These Incidents Happen

Unfortunately, vehicle crashes are a reality of the roadways, especially in and around the city. For the latest reporting year in New York, there were over 300,000 total crashes. Out of those, there were:

  • 122,551 personal injury crashes
  • Nearly 10,000 of those injuries were reported as severe

When it comes to vehicle crash injuries, we commonly see the following:

  • Broken or dislocated bones
  • Severe lacerations or amputations
  • Internal organ damage
  • Internal bleeding
  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Spinal cord injuries

Each of these requires immediate medical attention and can lead to major medical expenses for a crash victim. All too often, these crashes are caused due to the negligence or carelessness of other drivers. This can include:

  • Those who operate their vehicles while impaired by drugs or alcohol
  • Those who drive while distracted by their phones, devices, or something else in the vehicle
  • Those who speed or drive aggressively
